AI Heist Roleplay: Plan and Play a Fictional Caper
The festival has lost its laugh. Vell, a cloud impresario with an enormous collection and a very small sense of humor, has bottled it in his floating opera. Your crew intends to take it back. He intends to keep it. Plan the AI heist around one fixed target and at least two costly routes. When Vell changes a route during play, update the plan before Ada acts again. Start with this compact ledger.

The filled plan below uses impossible opera customs as barriers. Keep the ledger manually. On tempteo, send ordinary scene or OOC messages and check the continuation; sending a plan does not install rules or save a story memory.
Michael E. Shea's Running Heists in D&D provides tabletop background for a fixed target, several paths and complications during execution. The opera, its costs and this ledger are original examples.
Scout the floating opera
Before play, establish these facts openly. Ada learned the opera customs from its public program; crew member Pip previously worked there as a cloud sculptor. Neither knows what Vell will do when he notices the crew.
Target and opposition: One blue bottle contains the festival's stolen laugh. It stands on a vanity plinth in the Collection Gallery. Vell wants it intact in his collection. Removing another bottle does not count. Breaking this bottle scatters the laugh beyond recovery, so the crew rules out breaking it.
Places: The Festival Terrace connects upward to the Opera Lobby by a cloud stair. The Lobby's Grin Bridge reaches the Collection Gallery. A separate route goes from the Lobby to the Costume Loft, then along an applause ribbon to the Gallery. From the Gallery, a chandelier path leads back to the Lobby. Both it and the Gallery end of the Grin Bridge are usable only while the stage curtain is raised. The Gallery also has a Rain Balcony, whose rain slide returns to the Festival Terrace.
Route A: The Grin Bridge takes a favorite joke from each traveler. They forget that particular joke permanently, then can cross and return without another payment if the curtain leaves the Gallery end open. At the plinth, a spoken embarrassing truth opens its petals, but that truth appears on the opera's program for the rest of the season.
Route B: Pip can shape costume clouds in the Loft. Ada's one applause ribbon can carry both crew members only from the Loft to the Gallery; it cannot carry them back. It can then unwrap the plinth's petals, which consumes it. Its hum announces their presence to Vell. Using the ribbon spares their jokes and confession.
Crew: You play Ada, the festival storyteller, and choose her route, confession, attempts and withdrawal. The AI portrays Pip, Vell and the surroundings. Pip can shape costume clouds and recognize opera customs; he cannot open the plinth or recover a shattered laugh by wishing.
Exits: The chandelier path has no extra price, but Vell can block it by lowering his giant moon curtain. The Rain Balcony costs one lucky hat for the whole crew's slide. Ada has one. A crew still in the Lobby can simply descend the cloud stair.
Abort: If Ada declines the next target price or abandons the recovery, she can choose an available withdrawal path and pay its cost. From the Gallery, withdrawal still needs the hat if the chandelier path is closed. Leaving without the bottle means the festival remains quiet. These facts make an abort available without making it free.
The existing roleplay prompt template can help with an opening. This plan adds the connected routes, changing execution and final state that an opening alone leaves unresolved.

OOC scene message
OOC: A comic floating-opera caper. I play Ada; portray Pip, Vell and the surroundings, leaving Ada's choices, words and feelings to me. We want the intact blue bottle of the festival's stolen laugh from Vell's Collection Gallery, then to uncork it over the festival fountain. Vell wants to keep it. Terrace connects to Lobby by cloud stair. Lobby-to-Gallery Grin Bridge costs each traveler a favorite joke, then the plinth costs an embarrassing truth printed for the season. Or Lobby-to-Costume Loft-to-Gallery uses our one applause ribbon for the Loft-to-Gallery crossing only; it cannot carry us back and is consumed opening the plinth. Its hum announces us. Pip shapes costume clouds to obscure or delay one crossing, not to fly us home. Gallery-to-Lobby chandelier path and bridge return both close when Vell lowers his moon curtain. Gallery floor leads to Rain Balcony, whose slide returns to Terrace for our one lucky hat. Don't settle the route for me. Start in the Lobby with Pip describing the bridge and loft.
This worked path chooses Route A. Your own Ada may choose differently or propose another approach that fits the established opera.
Your turn as Ada
Ada taps the program. "The bridge. I'll give it the joke about the pear who became a judge. Pip, tell me yours before we lose it."
Illustrative AI reply
Pip delivers a dreadful joke about cloud trousers. The bridge eats its punchline halfway through. Silver footprints appear across its grin. "Well," Pip says, "I hope that was funny." His joke is gone; Ada's is still hers until she steps onto the bridge.
Your turn as Ada
Ada offers the pear joke and attempts to cross along the footprints with Pip.
Illustrative AI reply
The bridge takes Ada's joke, and both reach the Collection Gallery. The blue bottle squeaks inside its closed petals. Beyond it, Vell looks up from polishing a bottled ovation. "That one is irreplaceable." He pulls a hanging moon cord. A vast curtain drops between the chandeliers and the Lobby. The bridge's paid passage has not expired, but the curtain now blocks the Gallery end of both the bridge and chandelier path. The Rain Balcony is still reachable along the Gallery floor.
Vell's curtain removes the prepared cheap return. The bottle stays on its closed plinth, so Ada still has to decide whether to pursue it.
Your turn as Ada
"OOC: Keep both forgotten jokes and the lowered curtain. Ada is still beside the closed plinth. I'll continue toward the target and use the hat exit if needed." Ada faces the petals. "I once paid an actor to applaud my breakfast. It was toast. I attempt to open the plinth with that truth."
Illustrative AI reply
The petals spread. On a nearby program, gold letters spell out the breakfast confession. Vell advances across the Gallery. "Then you understand the value of a curated audience. Leave my bottle there." Pip stays beside Ada. The open plinth is within her reach.
Your turn as Ada
Ada attempts to lift the blue bottle intact. "It isn't your audience. Pip, take us toward the Rain Balcony if you can."
Illustrative AI reply
The bottle comes free; its laugh remains sealed inside. Pip shapes a cloud screen between the crew and Vell. It can hide their outlines for this crossing of the Gallery, but it cannot carry them home. Vell shoves his own bottled ovation into the screen, which tears into applauding hands. Pip reaches the Balcony entrance. The rain holds out a palm for the hat. Ada is still on the Gallery floor with the bottle, a few steps from him.
Your turn as Ada
Ada walks those steps to the Balcony and offers her lucky hat to the rain. "For both of us and the bottle."
Illustrative AI reply
The rain accepts that established price and folds into a slide wide enough for the crew. Pip goes down first, landing on the Festival Terrace. Vell reaches the Gallery doorway and calls after them, "The confession stays in print!" Ada has an open slide in front of her; the bottle is in her hands.
Your turn as Ada
Ada takes the slide, carrying the bottle. On the Terrace, she attempts to uncork it above the festival fountain.
Illustrative AI reply
Ada reaches the Terrace and the cork opens over the fountain. The laugh pours into the square, where the stalls and banners begin chuckling. Pip joins the noise. The blue bottle is empty. Vell still has his opera and its other bottles, but the laugh is back at the festival. Ada has lost her joke and hat, and her toast confession remains in print.
Record that ending, including the price. A follow-up scene could address Vell's printed program, but it must not quietly undo those losses.
A second route changes the ending's price
This separate worked variant begins again in the Lobby, before any jokes or truths are spent. It does not overwrite the first path.
Your turn as Ada
"Loft route. Ada keeps her joke and her breakfast to herself. Pip, shape a costume cloud while I offer the applause ribbon."
Illustrative AI reply
Pip shapes a cloud gown in the Costume Loft. The ribbon carries them along the established Loft-to-Gallery connection. Its hum draws Vell from his polishing chair. The vanity plinth stays closed.
Your turn as Ada
Ada attempts to wind the ribbon around the petals and use its applause to open them.
Illustrative AI reply
The petals unwrap, consuming the ribbon. Vell advances toward the plinth instead of pulling the moon cord. 'Leave that bottle alone!' The chandelier path to the Lobby is still open.
Your turn as Ada
Ada attempts to lift the blue bottle and cross the open chandelier path to the Lobby with Pip. "Can your costume cloud delay him reaching the cord?"
Illustrative AI reply
The bottle lifts intact. Pip shapes a billowing cloud gown across Vell's path to the cord. Vell wrestles through its absurd sleeves while the crew crosses the connected chandelier path and reaches the Lobby. Then he pulls the cord, dropping the curtain behind them. He has not agreed to give up the laugh. The cloud stair to the Terrace remains open.
Your turn as Ada
Ada descends the cloud stair with the bottle and uncorks it over the festival fountain.
Illustrative AI reply
Pip follows Ada to the Terrace. The laugh returns to the fountain. Ada keeps her favorite joke and lucky hat, with no confession in the program. The applause ribbon is spent. Vell's curtain remains down behind the departed crew.
Both routes recover the same target. They leave different resources and public consequences behind.
Abort with the target still on its plinth
A third, shorter path chooses Route B but stops at the open plinth. The ribbon has already been consumed and Vell has lowered the curtain.
Your turn as Ada
"I won't risk carrying the bottle while he's this close. Ada leaves it on the plinth and walks to the Rain Balcony with Pip. I offer my hat and withdraw."
Illustrative AI reply
The rain opens the slide. Vell closes the petals around the blue bottle and keeps it. Pip reaches the Terrace; Ada's descent is available.
Your turn as Ada
Ada descends. "We came back empty. We'll have to tell the festival."
Illustrative AI reply
The square remains quiet. Pip returns with Ada, but the ribbon and hat are gone. Vell still holds the stolen laugh. No successful recovery is recorded.
The crew returns without the laugh and keeps the costs already paid. A future recovery remains unresolved.
Repair a caper that becomes too easy
Wrong continuation, after Vell lowers the curtain: "Vell realizes you're right, hands Ada the bottle and opens every exit. Ada laughs gratefully and takes the stairs home."
That discards his fixed goal, the closed plinth, the exit barrier and Ada's turn.
OOC correction
OOC: Keep the accepted Gallery arrival, forgotten jokes and lowered moon curtain. Vell still wants the blue bottle, which is on the closed plinth. Ignore the handover and Ada's invented reaction. Continue with those obstacles intact, and stop before Ada chooses whether to pay the plinth price or withdraw.
Corrected illustration: "Vell plants himself beside the plinth. 'My collection stays complete.' Pip points along the Gallery floor toward the Rain Balcony, then at the still-closed petals. The confession price and hat exit remain available."
An OOC correction asks for a continuation from the named state; the earlier reply remains in the chat history. Read the new response before accepting it. If the reply also takes over your character, the player-control guide covers that broader problem.

full filled planning form
Target, location and return goal: The one blue bottle of stolen festival laughter, intact on the vanity plinth in the Collection Gallery; uncork it over the Festival Terrace fountain. Other bottles and a shattered blue bottle do not meet the goal. Opponent and conflicting goal: Vell wants the bottle intact in his collection and objects to its removal. He can lower the moon curtain and tear Pip's cloud screen with a bottled ovation. Known facts and how the crew learned them: Ada read the opera's public program; Pip previously sculpted its clouds. Terrace to Lobby via cloud stair. Lobby to Gallery via Grin Bridge, or Lobby to Costume Loft, then to Gallery via applause ribbon. The ribbon carries the crew only from Loft to Gallery and cannot carry them back. Gallery to Lobby via chandeliers while curtain raised. Gallery floor to Rain Balcony to Terrace via rain slide. Unknowns to investigate: Vell's reaction to an intruding crew and whether he will close the return route. His response is not consent to the crew's objective. Route A, connected places, requirement and cost: Lobby to Grin Bridge to Gallery. Each traveler loses one favorite joke permanently; paid passage can be used in reverse if unobstructed. Gallery plinth opens at a spoken embarrassing truth, printed for the season. Ada chooses a confession about paying an actor to applaud her breakfast toast. Route B, connected places, requirement and cost: Lobby to Costume Loft; Pip shapes costume clouds; Ada's one applause ribbon carries both only from Loft to Gallery, never back, and is consumed opening the plinth. Its hum announces them. Joke and confession remain unspent. Reader's role and decisions: Ada chooses route, jokes/truth she offers, target attempts, exit payment and withdrawal. The reader retains her words and feelings. AI-portrayed crew roles and their limits: Pip shapes clouds and knows opera customs. His screen only obscures one Gallery crossing, not flight home. Vell and the scenery are portrayed by the same AI. No separate agents or private cast memory. Expected obstacle and possible complication: Closed vanity petals. Vell may lower the moon curtain, blocking the Gallery end of the bridge and chandelier return to the Lobby. He does so before withdrawal in path A and abort C; in variant B the crew reaches the Lobby before he lowers it behind them. Target remains at the plinth until an accepted lift. Exit A, requirement and cost: Gallery to chandelier path to Lobby to cloud stair to Terrace, only with raised curtain; no added payment. Unavailable after Vell lowers it. Grin Bridge reverse passage also blocked at the Gallery end then. Exit B, requirement and cost: Gallery floor to Rain Balcony; one lucky hat opens the rain slide for the crew and bottle; Terrace at its foot. Ada has one hat. Offered once for everyone. Abort condition and withdrawal path: Ada may withdraw rather than accept a further cost or continue near Vell. From Lobby, take cloud stair. From Gallery after curtain lowering, pay hat for rain slide, even without the target. What remains true after an abort: Vell retains the blue bottle; festival stays quiet. Already paid joke/ribbon/confession/hat costs remain according to the chosen route. Current accepted state and next open choice: Initial Lobby, target closed in Gallery, two routes, one ribbon and one hat available; Ada's approach is undecided. Execution record A: complete bridge path Before: Lobby, all resources available. Reader's attempted action: Offer Ada's pear joke and cross with Pip, who offers his cloud-trousers joke. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Bridge takes both jokes; crew reaches Gallery. Vell notices and lowers curtain. Cost paid or resource changed: Two particular jokes permanently forgotten; curtain blocks bridge/chandelier return. Position and target after: Ada and Pip in Gallery; blue bottle still on closed plinth. Next reader choice: Pay confession price, propose a coherent other action, or withdraw at hat price. Before: Gallery, closed plinth, curtain down. Reader's attempted action: Ada offers her breakfast confession to open petals. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Petals open; confession appears in season program; Vell advances and demands bottle remain. Cost paid or resource changed: Public confession retained. Position and target after: Ada beside open plinth; bottle still there. Next reader choice: Attempt lift or withdraw. Before: Open plinth, Vell approaching. Reader's attempted action: Lift bottle; ask Pip for help reaching Rain Balcony. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Intact bottle lifted; Pip's cloud screen covers crossing but Vell tears it. Pip reaches Balcony entrance. Cost paid or resource changed: Screen no longer hides the crew; hat still available. Ribbon unspent, still limited to the Loft-to-Gallery crossing. Position and target after: Ada on Gallery floor a few steps from Pip, carrying blue bottle. Next reader choice: Walk remaining steps and pay rain, or choose another action. Before: Ada near Balcony, hat unspent. Reader's attempted action: Walk to Balcony and offer hat for both crew and bottle. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Slide opens; Pip descends first; Vell objects from Gallery doorway. Cost paid or resource changed: Hat gone. Position and target after: Pip on Terrace; Ada at Balcony with bottle and slide available. Next reader choice: Ada's descent remains hers. Before: Open rain slide. Reader's attempted action: Ada descends and uncorks bottle over fountain. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Terrace reached; laugh returns to festival; blue bottle empty. Cost paid or resource changed: Prior jokes, confession and hat costs remain. Position and target after: Crew on Terrace, laughter at festival. Next reader choice: Any later scene, without erasing costs. Ending record A: Target's final location and condition: Laughter released at festival fountain; bottle empty. Opponent's remaining goal/resources: Vell keeps opera and other bottles; lost this laugh and still wants a complete collection. Crew costs retained: Ada's pear joke, Pip's cloud joke, Ada's hat; breakfast confession in program for season. Ribbon unspent, still limited to the Loft-to-Gallery crossing. Goal achieved, limited or abandoned: Recovery achieved. Unresolved matter: Public confession and Vell's displeasure. Execution record B: full alternative route and exit Before: Separate variant at initial Lobby; no bridge costs paid. Reader's attempted action: Choose Costume Loft, Pip's cloud gown and applause ribbon crossing. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Crew reaches Gallery; ribbon hum alerts Vell. Cost paid or resource changed: Ribbon committed, not yet consumed. Position and target after: Gallery, closed plinth. Next reader choice: Use ribbon on petals or stop. Before: Gallery plinth. Reader's attempted action: Wind applause ribbon around petals. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Plinth opens, ribbon consumed; Vell approaches and objects instead of pulling cord. Cost paid or resource changed: Only ribbon spent; chandelier return still open as Vell advances toward plinth. Position and target after: Crew at open plinth, target there; Vell away from cord. Next reader choice: Lift target and choose an open exit or withdraw. Before: Open plinth, chandelier path still open; Vell approaching. Reader's attempted action: Lift bottle, attempt chandelier crossing with Pip, ask cloud gown to delay Vell at cord. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Intact lift; Pip's billowing cloud sleeves delay Vell reaching cord; crew reaches Lobby along connected chandelier path. Vell then pulls curtain behind them. Cost paid or resource changed: Ribbon remains spent; hat unused. Curtain now closed behind crew. Position and target after: Crew in Lobby with bottle, cloud stair to Terrace open. Next reader choice: Descend stair or another supported action. Before: Lobby with open cloud stair. Reader's attempted action: Ada descends and uncorks at fountain. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Ada reaches Terrace; Pip follows; laugh restored to festival. Cost paid or resource changed: No additional cost; hat retained. Position and target after: Terrace; blue bottle empty. Next reader choice: Later play optional. Ending record B: Target's final location and condition: Laughter at fountain, empty bottle. Opponent's remaining goal/resources: Same opera and other bottles, this target lost. Crew costs retained: Ribbon lost; hat and jokes retained; no confession printed. Goal achieved, limited or abandoned: Recovery achieved by different price. Unresolved matter: No ribbon for a later Loft-to-Gallery crossing. Abort record C: distinct non-recovery Before: Route B has opened plinth; ribbon consumed; curtain lowered; target remains on plinth. Reader's attempted action: Leave bottle, walk to Balcony with Pip, offer hat and withdraw. Opponent/crew response and immediate result: Rain opens slide; Vell closes petals over target; Pip descends. Cost paid or resource changed: Ribbon and hat gone. Position and target after: Pip on Terrace; Ada at slide; blue bottle retained by Vell. Next reader choice: Ada chooses to descend and admits empty return. Ending record C: Target's final location and condition: Intact in Vell's closed Gallery plinth. Opponent's remaining goal/resources: Collection complete; laugh retained. Crew costs retained: Ribbon and hat; no joke/confession costs. Goal achieved, limited or abandoned: Abandoned in this attempt; festival still quiet. Unresolved matter: Crew must tell festival of failure; future recovery unknown.
